VHKC Changes for Season 4

As we head into Season 4, we’re making a number of changes to improve the championship structure, racing standards, points system, and how results are shared with the community.

Division 3 and the new Rookies Division

Moving into Season 4, we will be saying farewell to the Open Division and introducing Division 3 as a new closed division.

Alongside this, we are also introducing the Rookies Division, which will become the starting point for all new drivers entering the championship.

Rookies will compete in their own group at the start of each race day. Once a Rookie driver has completed two race days, they will be assigned to a closed division for the remainder of the season.

As always, division assignments will be based on lap time data, race etiquette, race results, and overall racing standards.

Once a Rookie driver is promoted into a closed division, the points they earned during their Rookie rounds will carry over at a 0.75 multiplier.

Changes to the points system

After reviewing how points were awarded during reverse-grid races in previous seasons, we identified an issue with the minor and major points system.

In minor-points races, such as reverse-grid races or heat races, drivers finishing beyond 12th place would often receive the same number of points regardless of their finishing position. This meant there was no points-award difference between finishing 13th, 14th, 15th, or lower.

For Season 4, we have adjusted the points system so that every position matters. Points will now remain up for grabs throughout the field, giving drivers more reason to keep fighting for position across every race.

This adjustment also means that the maximum number of points a driver can score on a race day is now 120.

Teams Division changes

We will be continuing with two Teams Divisions in Season 4, with some minor adjustments to how teams are classified into Division 1 or Division 2.

A team’s division will still be determined by the average driver division of the team.

Teams with an average driver division between 1.00 and 2.00 will be classified as a Division 1 team. Teams with an average above 2.00 and up to 3.00 will be classified as a Division 2 team.

If a team’s average division is exactly 2.00, they will initially be allocated to Division 1. However, if they wish, they may request to move to Division 2 before the start of Round 4.

Remember to register your team for the new season on our website.

Driving standards and rule changes

The VHKC encourages close, hard racing, but it must also remain clean and fair.

Towards the end of Season 3, we began identifying adjustments we could make to the incident points system to further improve driving standards.

For Season 4, we have made several changes to better hold drivers accountable for poor racing etiquette. In particular, we will be taking a firmer approach to intentional blocking, failing to leave sufficient racing room, and repeated avoidable contact.

Additionally, to further the accountability of incidents, Incident points awarded in Division 2 will expire after 6 months, and Incident points awarded in Division 1 will expire after 12 months. Incident points in Division 3 will still be reset at the end of the season, excluding points awarded in the final round.

These changes are outlined in Version 4 of the VHKC Rules and Regulations.

Results sheets on the website

Going into Season 4, the VHKC will now publish all race day results sheets on the website in the days following each event. These results sheets will include best lap times, race results, points awards, team awards, and more.

They will be available on the front page of our website, where you can already find the results from the inaugural VHKC Endurance Cup.

Commemorative Artwork

To celebrate Season 3, we’ve created commemorative artwork, featuring the best photos from the season and all the podium sitters across all the divisions.

We will be creating commemorative artwork for every season moving forward, and yes, we will eventually have artwork made to commemorate Seasons 1 and 2.

Artwork is available to order in either a premium A2 poster or frame, or as part of our Partners Package. Contributions will be put towards providing greater prizes for drivers at the end of the season.

These are the key changes coming to the VHKC for Season 4. We can’t wait to see you all back on track.
